Part 3

Strange workings, collage spurred from findings in my scrap box. Is this off course from works I intended? I believe so, I’d like to see where my hand and mind finishes off, but I don’t think I will like what I produce. Its already reminding me of my early sketchbook artworks of collage and odd meanings that only make sense to me. Onto attaching mod rock to the canvas, and painting to look like old wallpaper. A picture frame and nailing stuff into the canvas… I’m not sure where I’m going with this either. Valentines is the theme.

Stormy yellow cottage

A lot of texture. Layering, scratching with the paintbrush, fingerprints and unsurety. A bright lemony yellow house, which somehow captures a darkness. A grey depressing sky, walls dirtied with mould and overgrowth and tatty windows. I feel a negativity from it, like a storm brewing, not just in the atmosphere.

Collage

So I went with the blank canvas. Fresh Start. Starting with masking tape and texturing with newspaper and mixed media, heavy paint and acrylic. I still don’t have a plan on the outcome.

Hello

I’m back. There’s painting, a new studio, plenty of workspace but I moved to the floor for this experimental phase, so plenty of floor space! I’m not quite sure what it is I will be painting today. I have a partial idea, and that’s what I’m going off. Either repainting over that blue canvas or a new one. Cover sheet out, all materials and tools. Let’s see where this goes.

Progress..?

Trying out that trending watercolour/ink bleed art. I’ll admit its better than my first attempt but still a wip as I want to tweak it like the rest of my work. Albeit its summery but flowers are popular regardless. 

Some time later

Weather tarnished it’s nearly the same colour as the fence. No regrets it looks better outside.  

Craft from the past

So rummaging in the garage looking for old stuff, as you do, and come across a bag full of scooby strings. So i thought why not? It’s been a long time since i made scooby. They were last in trend about 12 years ago and I only know how to make round scoobies (though i did try to make square ones! >_<). And although being very rusty – I couldn’t quite figure out the last loop which tied everything – i finally got there. And by tradition I’m going to put it on my suitcase. 

Elements Day 2

Two days later. We’ve had a lot of rain. The lion being painted with rust and showing us the degradation of metal. Tainted by nature, splattering corrosion.  

Leaving to the elements

So found my metal art whilst moving. It’s a sheet of steel composite drawn on with a plasma gun which I did during a metal workshop. Thus far is my first and last attempt and is a sort of abstract jungle picture – coming up with an image on the spot when you have a limited amount time is rather hastening, so not as pretty as I would of hoped! I used the gun at varying speeds, slower for surface marks, faster (accidently) caused the jagged melting but I think it’s quite interesting contrast now that the surface is rusting; and the right speed which cuts through the metal cleanly.

So now that it’s rusting we’re going to leave it to the elements…

The rain is now the artist. 

Spring drawing

Sat in quiet at a lovely park today, drawing the nature. Gathering reference and inspiration and a bit of exploring.  Sadly the sun has gone in for the week and I’m sat in the cold. So not as many drawings as I would like and will be relying on photos until I can go to another park or gardens. I have now retreated to a cosy little cafe for a turkish delight hot choc. Just another cold day in spring.
